Belated Christmas Present for Aeros fans Aeros 4-Stars 3

The winning goal by Medvec!
Granlund and Nilstorp duel for the puck :-)
With Matt Hackett in the net the Aeros managed to overcome attacks by Texas Stars to win the game in OT 4-3.
Zucker seems always ready...
Being Guns and Hoses night, TC brimmed over with close to 11000
very loud fans animated by

Hackett- the warrior
FACES
                                   Nilstorp of the Stars

Busy, busy  Hackett
Saved
Granlund at face off
Goal by Coyle in the 2nd.
Aeros score first (Granlund, Coyle, Zucker), but Stars (Fraser, Sceviour, Benn) bounce back within 5 minutes. The rest of the first was a bit blah.
In the second Aeros scored first again (Palmieri, Fontaine, Connelly). Although the Stars managed to get a PP goal (Eakin, Chiasson, Smith) while Bagnall sits,  the Aeros also got a PP goal (Coyle, Granlund, Zucker) during the only penalty of a Stars player (Eakin).
Then came the third and it was a busy time for the Stars with 13 SOG and one goal by Roussell, Nemeth, Dillon to even the score to 3:3.

And so we went to OT. When a bit over 2 minutes into it Kyle Medvec with the help of Palmieri and Cuma scored the game winner! Now that WAS a surprise to us after having been less then overwhelmed with his performance with the Solar Bears in early December.

Amazingly, there were only 3 penalties called and both teams managed to convert one each!
Hackett gets the win with 27 saved of 30 SOG

Aeros moving forward

You could say so, this afternoon in San Antonio, the team only lost by 1.
And both Aeros goals were scored by the new boyz on the ice.

Per Voice of the Aeros (to whom we listen faithfully when the team plays away) the first goal was by Coyle with assists by Granlund and Zucker.
Now then the second goal was by Zucker with assists by Connelly and Coyle!
Now how sweet is that! A double dose of Zucker surely qualifies for sweet!

Which just shows the new boys have the talent, despite grumblings from fans that the OLD guard should play and the NEW boyz should sit and take notes ;-).

Matt Hackett was in goal versus Markstrom for the Rampage.

BTW... former Aeros Casey Wellman, in case you are interested, got a assist.

Is the 'system' working?
Are the new boyz stepping up?
Are the old guard on guard to guide the newbies?
Only time will tell.

Meanwhile my suggestion is:
sit back, enjoy a game of hockey, watch the new boyz fly across the ice, and  keep wishing.
At least, WE have AHL to watch and entertain us.

Knights of Hockey, Brain with Brawn, Wild News

Saving isn't all they do, these masked knights of hockey ;-)

 they fight too:

and  even dance ;-)!

Just a little post to lighten us up today.

And some other stuff I read recently:
It sure looks like in Hockey one can have both! Brains and Brawns!
The hockey clubs of Yale, Harvard and Cornell achievement in mens' hockey all prove that !
IMO, the need for fast and felixible reasoning plus superb physical condition makes a great hockey player!
Of course I am somewhat biased.

And here are the current crop of college candidates for NHL drafts:
Round       Pick       NHL team                       Player Position College team
1 14 Dallas Jamie Oleksiak D Northeastern
.
1 15 N.Y. Rangers J.T. Miller C North Dakota (2011)
.
1 20 Phoenix Connor Murphy D Miami (2011)
.
1 22 Toronto Tyler Biggs RW Miami (2011)

Compared to all draft choices the number IS small.

And here is some WILD news:
The San Jose Sharks traded a package headlined by forward Devin Setoguchi to the Minnesota Wild for Brent Burns. The Sharks paid a steep price to acquire the 26-year-old Burns.
The 24-year-old Setoguchi, a 30-goal scorer who hasn't even reached his prime yet.
Coyle
And the Sharks added last year's first-round pick Charlie Coyle, a Boston Collegian, born March 2, 1992 and the 28th overall pick in this year's draft.
And more:
Jonas Brodin born July 12, 1993 in Sweden (17yrs old) reportedly has no truly impressive offensive stats, but amazes with his hockey sense, composure, skating, and mobility. And then there will be Zack PhillipsBorn October 28, 1992 who has 95 points (38G and 57 A) in his last season.
This all does seem to point that the WILD are aiming for a younger team to be molded to Yeos' specifications and to build a formidable team down the line in a year or two? Of course we won't see Setoguchi in Houston, I don't think.
Brodin at 17 is too young for next season playing as Aeros or wild.
Phillips at 19 will/may be an Aeros!
And Coyle, hmmm, he would be a very attractive addition to the Aeros, wouldn't he, ladies?
