these are the numbers assigned to bronze frescoes by Henri Matisse (French,1869-1954) and created 1909, 1913, 1916/17 and 1930, respectively, displayed on a wall in the MFAH Sculpture Garden.
Where we also find L'Oiseau (1968-81, Bronze) by Joan Miro (Spanish 1893-1983), William Tucker's (Born 1953 in Egypt of Brit. parents) Gymnast II (Bronze)
plus like vines creeping along a wall,
The Dance by Linda Ridgway (Amer. born 1947) ( 2000 Bronze).
It was simply too nice an afternoon to spend much time INSIDE the MFAH.
I did cruise through the new exhibit " Ruptures and Continuities:Photography Made after 1960", some were amusing, others confusing, some intriguing, others historical, some hysterical and one outrageous.. that one you better go see for your self ;-). Plus a quick spin through the "Prendergast in Italy" (IMO rather insipid watercolors which all seemed alike-maybe worth a second visit) and the "Sargent and the Sea" and "Houston's Sargents"-that one IS worth a second or even third visit.
Strolling through the sculpture garden was much more delightful, sunshine, blue sky and light breeze made it so...
a favorite (now what can it be?)
A pineapple tree? World Orb with tree and Fruit on top?
To the left rear definitely a copy in bronze of Auguste Rodin's The Kiss ;-).
After dinner on to Houston Masterworks Chorus presenting "Celebrate Mendelsohn"
Psalm Settings by Felix Mendelsohn and Mass Movements by J. S. Bach
with soloist soprano Melissa Givens, Guest conductor Dr.JohnYarrington,
featuring the 2 winners of HMC 2010 Emerging Artist Competition,
Sopranos Julia Cramer and Abigail Dueppen,
accompanying on the organ was Daryl Robinson.
My favorite pieces:
" Hear My Prayers" Cantata by Mendelsohn with Givens as soloist.
The clip below just an example
and J.S. Bach's Dona Nobis Pacem (in B minor) - just to show the beauty of these two pieces.
Hear my prayers and Give Us Peace could be the theme for Aeros fans after the Aeros Performance in Austin tonight. Because, as I was driving home after the delightful concert, I got in on the tail end of the "Voice of the Aeros" report assisted by The 'Kassassinator' (must have been a healthy scratch) Joe O'Donnell : Stars 4 - Aeros 3.
All I heard was that Duncan, "the King", Milroy got goals.
Anton"Dimples" Khudobin made same HUGE (Kassian's word) saves...alas A LOSS.
Hrkac magic just not strong enough.
Magic applied too little, maybe even too late for these Aeros ;-) :_(
HUGE SIGH! Will have to check the AHL score to see where exactly the team is standing now after this loss to Stars. Manana.. now it is turn in time, before my silver :) coach turns into a pumpkin LOL!
