loosing to Grand Rapids Griffins! Aeros 2 with 28 SoG vs. Griffins 7, yes 7 with 22 SG, loosing against those Griffins whose Penalty Kill record is one of the lowest!
Let me just count the Griffins Goals:
1: about 5 minutes into the 1.period Tardiff got an unassisted, shorthanded, goal! A fight between "Irms"Irmen and Kindl puts both in the box with a major; joined shortly by other Aeros at same time (Sifers, Kalus, Gunderson ?) and a smidgen later Noreau. Whilst the Aeros had a 'convention in the penalty box', Griffins' Tatar with McGrath and Ehrhard get goal 2.
Another fight: "Testy" (JP) and Mursak go at each other, with alas, 'Testy' not cutting quite as dashing a figure as he has done in other fights.
At 17:23 "Avalanche" Kalus gets Aeros goal 1, a power play goal with the help of Earl, "The Pearl" and "King Duncan" Milroy while Crosty sits off his 2 minutes.
Second period starts with Aeros 1/6 SoG and Griffins 2/10 SoG.
But not for long, Griffins add Goal 3 on a powerplay by Newbury, Williams and Janik, while Kalus serves the "Brusty" Penalty for tripping.
And at 16:16 Delmore with Abdelkader (he, of last year's Stanley Cup Red Wing Experience)
make it 4 for Griffins, ending 2. period with 4/17 vs Aeros 1/17.
In the 3. period, right after Griffins get goal 5 by Vigilante with Emmerton at 5:54,
"Dubie" gets thrown to the Griffins -so to speak - for "Brusty", who may have not been playing under full powers due to an earlier injury (30 stitches), but really did not seem to be quite with it all along!
Now comes the nicest part, Birthday Boy Colton "Frisky" Gillies gets his goal for the day/night (in celebration of his 21st) Aeros goal Nr. 2 with the help of "The Scrapper" Daoust and "The Rock" Rogers.
But horrors, at 10:11 Abdelkader, Mursak and Ritola make it 6 and at 19:27 Ritola with Rissmiller and Pyett get goal 7 for the Griffins.
Game ends with Aeros 2 goals/28 and Griffins 7 goals/22.
Three Stars are all Griffins:
Nr. 1 Newbury, 2. Abdelkader, 3. Larsson, the goalie.
Somehow, these were those Aeros that play lackluster, that have slow second periods, that miss most PP opportunities, that let a shorthanded goal happen (where WAS the defense?).With all those goals zipping into the net..I lost track of how many PP Aeros managed to NOT convert?
Never mind, that some calls were not made, never mind that 'Dubie' was dumped on and took a while to regroup and recover, but gamely soldiered on to the bitter end! A loss is a loss, ALAS! Pics next post.
