Aeros outfox Admirals

Hackett

What a game!
Aeros, in Green, came out firing.

And yet, Dekanich, in goal for Milwaukee, stopped all 12 SoGs.
Hackett, for the Aeros, had it a bit easier he only had to stop 8.
The one powerplay was wasted by Aeros.

And so the first period ended 0:0.

Sully goal
Admirals regrouped in the second period and sent 14 shots toward Hackett, who stopped them all but the one PP Goal by Bourque, which was soon to be followed by a PP Goal by O'Sullivan.  And ecstatic fans are happy to see the light flick on (lol)

Despite two more powerplay chances, the Aeros could not get another goal on Dekanich, he stopped all  other SoGs the Aeros threw at him.
And so at the end of the second Aeros 1 Admirals 1
The Third period saw another pp goal by Bourque.
And then, an unassisted slam-bang one by O'Sullivan which not only caught Dekanich by surprise but also the fans.
Hands flew up to mouth in an "Oh, My God" - "Did you see that?" moment of pure bliss about the lucky shot! And so we were even again and into OT.
Not too far into it, with the second SoG Earl slapped in the winner.
And the Aeros won 3 - 2 over Admirals, which now ties the two in First slot.
Earl' s  game winner
Three stars:
3. Bourque for Ads with 2 PP goals
for Aeros 2. O'Sullivan  (1 PP goal, 1 unassisted) and
1. Earl  with the OT game winner

Return to 1070

Martinu as a child playing the violin
after having watched a filmed version of Bohuslav Martinu's (1890-1959) Opera "Greek Passion"
(Recke pasije-the original Czech title) which is based on the Nikos Kazantzakis novel 'Christ Re-Crucified"(on DVD)-sung in English.
Which I liked,  truly liked!
I felt, Martinu captured the underlying passions, thoughts, feelings - good and evil -  well musically.
It is a story eternal with humankind.
Love, hate, envy, illicit passion, betrayal, discrimination, compassion.
Humans being torn by faith in Christian values and  utter selfishness.
The music was very lyrical  and expressive, never overpowering.
The singing was well done by soloists from Welsh National Opera.
Among them, IMHO,  John Mitchison as Manolios. John Tomlinson as Grigoris, the Village Priest and Geoffrey Moses as Fotis, the Priest gave great performances.  Artur Davies as Yannakos and Helen Field as Katerina  produced some inspired sounds

Here's a sample of the Kyrie Eleison from it.

Filmed in an actual landscape - desert like with sparse vegetation - lent great verisimilitude to the story. Greek Passion, indeed.
Here is the original Greek Orthodox chant which must have inspired the composer and librettist Martinu:

The subject of 'Christ recrucified' may not be to all's taste, but we all can relate to human weakness, even  if we don't believe in redemption.

What did you say to us, Earl?

Then I tuned into 1070 and heard to my surprise that the Marlies bested the Aeros  in the last period's final minutes plus adding an empty netter to make it 4-2.
I can almost hear the fans "The guys were tired out, the Refs were against the Aeros...etc."
I did not see the game, so I am only stunned to hear that Earl got a 20 minute penalty
for various infractions..a bit severe methinks.

Having two refs doubled the chances of doubled penalties?
  :-)   :-(

Aeros "firing with" all Goalies

After another monstrous win over the Lake Erie Monsters, in front of their home crowd of 11,000 plus,
Aeros are now tied in first with Admirals! See numbers below.
Congrats Aeros!

Although Aeros and Wolves have played the most games already.

Who'd a thunk that last October?
I am sure, I did not. I admit it!
And so did many others, even those on press row!

And don't be fooled by their protestations "I predicted a successful reason" - NOW!
But hey, what's past is past and the future does looks  rosy, indeed!

Earl with Daoust and Falk, and Peters with the Di Salvatore-O'Sullivan combo,
scored the two goals in first and second periods respectively.
Anton Khudobin stopped more shots, than John Grahame of the LEM.

Monstrous Win for Hackett

 What a game:
Aeros are hot, keeping the stick to the puck they out shot the Lake Erie Monsters, who seemed just not all there.
The occasional great passes, the rare bursts of speed.. but nothing helped. Monsters could not get a goal.

Without the really quite herouic saves by Bacashihua, the LEM could have lost even bigger.  After all he made 38 saves while being peppered by the 'wildly' aggressive Aeros.
Daoust made his penalty shot count and Aeros are up one.
Rau who truly earned his sobriquet WOW, was everwhere, playing extremely well. He made it 2 - 0 with the help of Earl, who in turn got a PP goal helped by Peters and Ortmeyer and so it stayed till the end Aeros 3-LEM 0.

Another save by Hackett

Hackett holding on to end
Ortmeyer, the veteran, must have injected some spunk into the team, and the Aeros flew across the ice, a fight between Gillies and Gaunce broke out, but really why.. the game was won already.

Bacashihua was like quicksilver at times,
whipping from side to side, from behind his own net to the front to stop another puck, with gloves, blocker, legs, stick...
and body turning somersaults on the way to stopping that puck..
I believe I caught his most dramatic save below in a few snaps.

Wenninger

Bacashihua - what a save

Santa Claus thank you!

On this Boxing day,
Aeros boxed in Bachman in the shoot out following a OT without a winning goal by either team.
Contrary to past games, Aeros put on quite a show of puck flurries on the Stars net minder in the 2.period 14 SoG vs Stars 4.
Peters got an early goal in the 1. which surprised BACHMAN, who then he made up for it by stopping 30 of 33 SoGs in regulation. Stars did not waste too much time to score 1 and 2.
Di Salvatore salvaged his rep as PP scorer by getting two PP goals: Aeros up  3 to Stars 2. (Lukowich, Sceviour) and Wathier, with seconds to spare, made it 3:3 and the game went into OT.
No goals  in OT.
Shoot Out: Earl, Rau and Almond the scorers, while Stars' Gagnon and Spang did the honors there.
But Hackett stopped the others, as he did stop 22 of 25,  in regulation.
So AEROS are back in 5.slot, but with 35 games already played. Rampage , Peoria and Ads lead the pack, Stars, Aeros follow. Icehogs still hog the last slot just behind Wolves.
A good game.
Even though a bit disappointing to the numerous Stars fans that swelled the crowd to 7513 attending
NO fight calls, some roughing and other minor infractions called by New (?)  Referee Tudor FLORU.

What was really a very pleasant surprise, the National anthem was presented by a trumpeter.
Who, IMO, did an excellent job playing it and, even more so (was it on purpose)
as he 'shut out'(tee hee-pun intended) the usual STARS being yelled loudly by Stars Fans!
Anyway, someone must have read my previous blog in which I poopoo'hed the many awful sounding singers of the anthem. Just saying...or?
Due to the recent demise of my OLD computer (he lasted some 7 - 8 yrs.. miracle?) no photos until I can get "Newby" bought and up and running.
Also tried out a new camera and still need to work on kinks or return it!
Will see how that  goes.
Since I can't upload onto my teensy notebook (no memory to speak of..like some I could, but will not, mention :D!
Happy New Year and let's meet again on January 1. to welcome the NEW Year,
a NEW (?) Aeros team standing UP against the SA Rampage,
while the Miss Aeros-Bikini Competition will, no doubt, usurp the attention of several fans....
ENJOY!

Lucky Bucky! And some thoughts on holiday fashions?

Just a brief notice...
artandhockey photo 11/26/2010
Nr. 39 Brandon Buck (unassisted) bagged his first GOAL... and gets Nr. 1 *
Earl (1. goal) Nr. 3 * and Peters made it 3 vs. Bulldogs!
Quite an achievement, when one considers that the Hamilton Bulldogs have consistently 'raised' and nurtured  lots of 'talented players who ended up in the NHL!

Bees, supplied on demand

When mainstream media is short of sensational news (not that THAT is often the case lately) they tend to write on such 'world shaking' topics as 'the best dressed, worst dressed, worst hairdo, bets hairdos...of the Stars (not the Texas or Dallas ones..) or try to ram down our throats THE BEST holiday party wear, EVER.

At least until next occasion, when it nominates the  Best Ever.. ad nauseam...

so here I have found the best 'hair and beard do' suitable for play off players, perhaps :-) :
Proclaim your Holiday preference with this hair do.
Color can be changed on demand

Just add water so Moss stays alive

Now that will catch eyes!
Perfect Boots?
The elegant Hockey Player's suit?

Tux on ice?

Hat Trick?

Veggies on his sleeves?

Indeed, I did!
