I speak - You speak

Somethings are just too funny for those who are not au courant with them.
Just like these...
.. scattered trout caught on croakers     weather report
.. quick limits of flounder    casino wager?
.. crapple are fair on minnows     fair or unfair?
.. fair bass action to four pounds     is it a price war?
If you haven't guessed it..                                                         that's fishermen speak!
And with a living thing..as language really is..words take on different meanings.

Discussed eloquently here.

On the other hand, there are "chickflics".
So are romance novels "chickbooks":-D?

And how about "props"?
No, not the kind usually artfully displayed on stages!

Not these either
So PROPS to that certain someone who inspired this blog..
not much of a blog, but then it IS summer :-)!

For serious Aeros/Wild fans there is this:
Aeros sign Jeff Taffe,
while The Wild aquire Dany Heatley for Martin Havlat from the Sharks. Setoguchi now has an old friend on the ice with him, eh!
BTW O'Sullivan is still out there somewhere, but where ?
And in case you did not know about the life of "Sully". Life was not a bowl of cherries for him. Wishing him, his wife and new baby the best!

Should you have missed it due to the holiday weekend
Minnesota, the State, is shut-down!
It has run out of money!

There IS life after death

or so the TAA (Texas Apartment Association) has us believe.

And I quote:

"Death of Sole Resident:
if you are the sole resident, upon your death you may terminate the Lease Contract without penalty with at least 30 days written notice.
You will be liable for payment of rent until the latter of: (1) termination date, or (2) until all possessions in the apartment are removed.
You will be liable for all rents, charges, and damages to the apartment until it is vacated, and any removal and storage costs."

Now this just confirms that there has to be life after death, doesn't it.
Apartment owners do believe in life and, especially, banking after death.
And will not penalize your ghost for terminating the lease contract but only  IF your ghost sends a written notice at least within 30 days of your death!
If you are unable to 'spirit away' all earthly possessions,
your ghost will have to pay for rents, removals and storage!

And should a poltergeist inflict damages to the apartment, look out!
Your ghost will be liable for that as well.
And all that from purgatory, heaven or hell, whichever applies.

Esteemed Authors of such contracts should really think over their verbiage
BEFORE including it into any 'legal' document!

After all once dead, one is unable to do anything, in writing or otherwise!

Words are words aren't they?

Waiting for Hockey to start- meanwhile some thoughts on languages:

One theory " linguistic determinism" posits that our language determines how we see our world.
The other theory "linguistic relativism" proposes our language causes thoughts about it.
So we need to pose a question, can we think without use of language?
That depends on how we explain the meaning of thinking.

(This has a familiar ring to it?  Remember THAT famous expression: What is IS :-)!)

If we are claiming language connects culture with psychology, could that become the decisive way to clarify our feelings? Or identify our cultural up bringing?

An example of how people admonish, as in "Behave"

In English we say, be good.
Auf Deutsch sagt man, sei brav - but that could also mean be brave, be honest!
En Francais on dit, soyez sages - roughly translated it means, be wise!

And so it goes.
Be good, be honest, be wise,  above all be PATIENT :-)!
Hockey will be here sooner that you think!
Let's hope not THAT kind of hockey ;-)!
More clips to humor 'hockey deprived' impatient readers :-D
