someone asked me to explain the Potential Rating of hockey player prospects.
Happy to oblige, so here is a brief overview in ascending order:
1) Borderline minor-barely above 'amateur beer league'2) Minor league role players have virtually no future to rise into NHL
3) Average minor league: any player/goalie who may skate only in minor league
4) Top minor leaguers: may not have careers In NHL but may be called up to substitute
5) Fourth liners/goalies used for fill ins, maybe enforcers or anyone with just not enough talent
6) Third liners/Back up Goalies are usually defense players almost but never quite good for a permanent NHL position
7) Second liners, journeyman goalies ..still just enough talent to fill NHL positions for a while but never permanently
8) First liners, Nr. 1 goalies..players a cut below elite skills, maybe All Star possibilities
9) Elite players: greatness there, most likely career All Stars but, baring miracles, not A star
10) Stars, those are players that excel, make 'puck magic'.. perhaps one in 10 years qualifies: Gretzky, possible Crosby.
And here the Probability Rating, also in ascending order:
A) Little potential...may just arrive at edge of that (multiply by 50% for depth chart)
B) Could drop 3 ratings, unlikely to reach the goal (multiply by 70%)
C) Could reach potential despite occasional bursts of talent -
could drop 2 ratings (multiply by 80%)
D) Should be able to reach full potential (multiply by 90%), may lack a thing or two in his game, which lessens the certainty of his future
E) Almost a guarantee for this player to reach his full potential.. (multiply by 100%)
And so with annie Oaklye Anything YOU can do I can do better!
